Slovenian Partner of IPM Tools

Srednja ekonomska šola Maribor (Secondary School of Economic Maribor) is a school with a long and rich tradition in the field of economic education. Many successful economists and other experts, professors and Doctors of Philosophy received their first knowledge of economy in this school.

The school developed from a Trade School, which was established in Maribor in fall of 1919, and had a two-year curriculum. In 1926, the school’s program expanded to a four-year curriculum. The first generation of the, then new, Trade School, which was considered one of the best schools in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, finished their schooling in June of 1930.

We are a modern, future-oriented school, with new, innovative methods of teaching, new educational programs, sustained by modern teaching technology.

We try to provide outstanding knowledge to our students because we are aware that knowledge is a value, which cannot be taken away, and, as such, it is the basis for life-long learning. We teach our students to think independently, to be self-confidant, to discover and use their abilities, to respect and help one another.

We are aware that the times we are living in are marked by rapid changes, which require constant learning and perfecting, critical thinking, creativeness, the ability to adjust to the changes, as well as awareness and respect for people who are different from us.

Along side of providing knowledge and expertise, our motto for our students, who will live in the 21st century, is:

At Srednja ekonomska šola Maribor, we implement two educational programs:

EKONOMSKI TEHNIK
(Economic vocational program)

This program ensures the acquisition of skills and expert knowledge, which facilitates success in the workplace and offers the possibility of education in four different fields:

• Financial - accounting field
• Commerce
• Postal field
• Business and Administrative field

Students conclude their schooling by passing the final exams called “Poklicna matura” (Vocational exams). They can either get a job or continue their education at specialized educational institutions.


EKONOMSKA GIMNAZIJA
(Economic and general grammar school)

This program is much like the general grammar school program – preparing students for their studies at the university level – with the distinction that it offers an in-depth study of Economics and Entrepreneurship.

The program is intended for students who want to:

• get a general education and essential knowledge of Economics,
• develop the ability for analytical thinking, organizational and leadership abilities, the ability for working in a team, entrepreneurial and managerial experience.

Students conclude their schooling by passing external examination called “Splošna matura.” They can then continue their studies at university.
